  • Uni and Play

As most people would know, I started uni quite early, and while only one week has past for most uni students, I have just completed my fourth week now.  It was extremely exhausting, with early starts and late finishes everyday, workbooks to do  at night, plus work on the weekends, but I survived!!!!!

With constant stress, we were all very relieved on Friday 27th, when we finally finished all our workbook assessments and our last lecture for a long time!!! As celebration we went bowling at AMF on Kessels Rd at night.

The place turns into a dark disco room after 8pm

Now for the score board.  I think two words describes my performance that night... EPIC FAIL

    Game 1:

    Arthur: 86
    Alex: 139
    Me: 54
I either miss entirely, or strike.. WTF

    Jason: 82
    Hanrong: 80
    Wen Jie: 20

    Game 2:

    Arthur: 50
    Alex: 93
    Me: 34
    Not much luck for me...

    Jason: 63
    Hanrong: 145
    Wen Jie: 68
Wen Jie got pretty good.. Jason was getting frustrated that Hanrong was kicking his ass

    Last game - Game 3:

    Arthur: 63
    Alex: 109
    Me: 54
    Hanging my head in shame

    Jason: 60
    Hanrong: 110
    Wen Jie: 82
Hanrong laughing, Jason crying, Wen Jie ending the night much improved from the start

My arm was pretty much dead for a couple of days after that.  I was worried how I was going to write in the exam AHAH.. but it got better by Wednesday ^^

After that it was all study study for my pre-clinical big exam on Wednesday. We have to surrender our phones to the office.  We also get locked up in a room together after the exam until the last group enter the exam room at 11:45am.   I went with a couple of physio friends to sing K at Newway afterwards.  It was fun!!! I haven't gone to sing K in so long!  I had a BSA dinner meeting to go to at night at Coffee Club Park Rd.  Food is alright.

Quick pic while waiting for people to arrive

Everybody come to the BSA Orientation Dinner, Coffee Club Park Rd, on 18th March!!!!!!!

Thursday:  I was going to use this day to do some cleaning, but did nothing of the sort (well I did do the laundry).  I ended up going to the coast with Joanne to check out the Gold Coast hospital since she has to go there in her third unit.   We also visited an apartment she was wanting to possibly live at during the immersion.  No such luck though, they only allow 6 month minimum.

    Southport Central Apartment towers

I made her do this.. WAHAHAHA

Going to the coast and back only cost me approximately $5!!!! So cheap!! I think it's because I use public transport really really often so I get more discount.

Friday: With only a few more days left before real placement immersions begins, us physiotherapy students have become rather restless, and extremely BORED!  At 10pm, Hanrong and Jason picked me up just when I got home from the city, to go back to the city to hang out at Joanne's place HAHA.. that's how bored we all are.

We played poker with Nutrigrain as chips LOL

We later played some card game that involves alot of screaming out 'bingo', hand slapping, and severe pain.  It was FUN!

    Wen Jie, Joanne, Me

Hanrong and Arthur being stupid haha

I was very tired by the end of it, and slept like a baby when I got home.  Only one more day before placement begins Mater Hospital Cardiorespiratory unit first up!!! Atleast it's easy to get to ><

  • More Make up!!!

Just a little update from my previous blog ^^

Last time I didn't include a swatch of Kate's Glam Trick Eyes in BR-1 because my sister took it when i was taking the pics.  Here it is:

I think this set lasts longer than all the other Glam Trick Eyes colours for some reason, as I explained in my previous post.  I love the look it gives as well (I used this eyeshadow on valentine's day).

I like GD-1 less, because the lighter pinkish shade shows up chalky and matte.  I found that throughout the day the colours seemed to disappear even though I was using the same make up base as usual.  It kind of reminded me of the YSL eyeshadow duo I mentioned in the previous post but a little better ><

My package finally arrived!!!!!! I was so excited I was jumping up and down when my sister's fiance waved it in my face (Ricky was present at the time.. he was abit clueless as to why I was so happy HAHA).

The packaging is SOOO pretty!! I really like how Visee Jewel Crush Eyes has a mirror, something Kate's eyeshadow palettes lack in severely.  However, the excitement quickly died down once I opened it up .
To be honest, I was hoping that this could be something that gives me more dramatic eyes, but instead the colours were very neutral.  I think I would have been better off with E6 since it has a dark brown shade that helps add some depth.  Too late now ><

The shadows themselves are really silky and glide on so easily in comparison with Kate's eyeshadows.  Kate is rougher to touch, and takes a few more applications to get a definite colour.  The two lighter colours on the left show up somewhat different when you swatch it onto your hand, but when it goes on the eyes, they show up pretty much the same colour, which kinda sux... Nevertheless, I guess it makes for a good everyday eyeshadow, but don't expect anything dramatic to come out of this palette.

One other thing I was wondering about while waiting for Visee's eyeshadow to come was the size.  So when I got it I put it next to Kate's Glam Trick Eyes palette ^^ (I don't really know why I automatically compare these two ranges, but they seem to have similar concepts).  They are around the same size with Visee only being slightly longer than Kate.  It's very nice and compact hehe

    Eyeliner:

I also got my hands on the Kiss Me Heroine Make Eyeliner.

They aren't kidding when they say it's super thin.  It really is SUPER THIN!!!  I understand that this eyeliner is waterproof, but I don't think it is very budgeproof.  I tested by rubbing it with a bit of water.  Of course it won't come off if you just pour water over it, but with just a little bit of rubbing it comes straight off in little rubber looking flakes, nice and clean!  No smudges with this eyeliner! Go to this site to see a comparison of Kate eyeliner and Kiss Me eyeliner.

Speaking of eyeliners, I would really like to try the Revlon Colorstay retractable eyeliner.  I'm too poor at the moment to buy it.  Instead I shall leech off my mum and get the Avon retractable eyeliner and mineral foundation since she is ordering from them too WAHAHAHAHAAHA

I've used Maybelline's Unstoppable retractable eyeliner before, thin and thick version.  It said it was waterproof, but it smudged throughout the day on my eyes.  I kind of gave up on crayon eyeliners after that.  For some reason I decided to take a look at Revlon's one recently, completely skeptical but I was stunned.  It takes a few seconds to set (every eyeliner needs time to set!), I drew it on and it was SUPER smooth, then looked around at other make up before trying to rub it off.  I rubbed and rubbed on my hand until it was red and it just stayed put without any fading or smudging.

These are the grey and black colours on my hand probably around... 12 hours after I put it on, after all the rubbing, and after a shower.  Might I also mention that I use an exfoliating glove to scrub everyday.  Still looks pretty good, and comes off very easily with oil-based make up remover!

I recommend Neutrogena oil-free make up remover and Loreal waterproof eye make up remover .  I do not recommend Swisspers eye make up remover pads, Simple eye make up remover, or Clarins eye make up remover.  They all gave me terrible terrible allergic reactions-stinging, watery, bright red eyes for hours!

    Mascara:

Target was having a huge sale just 2 weeks ago, and I was running out of mascaras.  I had read on various internet sites and saw some good reviews on Maxfactor's 2000 calorie mascara.  I prefer waterproof mascaras because they typically last longer and don't weight my eyelashes down as much.  I am thinking that MF's Aqua Lash is the wateproof version of 2000 Calorie??

I was happy with this mascara!! It's first application was abit WTF because the brush wasn't really getting the mascara, but after a few more dunks into the tube the brush was working great! I've been gifted with relatively long and full eyelashes in comparison with most asians, but not all mascaras I've tried helps enhance my eyelashes.  This  mascara helps enhance my eyelashes, is very light, volumizes, and makes my eyelashes nice and neat for the whole day ^^

Sorry about the dark scary picture of my eyes, my camera sucks (yes I'll just blame the camera and not my photo-taking skills ).  This was taken at around 11:30pm after a full day out.  I left the house at around 8am that morning I think, and I didn't do any touch ups throughout the day.

Tip: Your first coat of mascara is most important.  Make sure all the eyelashes are going the right way before the mascara sets.  If it's messy on the first coat, that will be the end of your dream of having neat eyelashesn for the day.

My new eyelash routine has now become:
    1. Clip eyelashes to make them nice and curly
    2. First coat of mascara
    3. WAIT for it to dry completely
    4. Clip again to recurl the now partially flopped eyelashes
    5. Second coat of mascara concentrating mostly at the tips to make them look fuller
    DONE!

  • Valentine's Day

February 14th, Valentine's Day, where many couples become helpless romantics with each other, and the single people go on with their everyday lives as per usual, or celebrate with friends.

However, for Beckie, she get's a double celebration since she is a Valentine's baby!!!! Hope you enjoyed your day with double the fun, double the gifts, and double the love ^^

I got some additions to my Pandora bracelet!!

M x R hehehe so sweet ^^ the two feet sticking up are actually a rabbit and teddy bear

We decided to treat ourselves to good old steak at Morrison's this year.  I wasn't expecting the place to be so romantic given the fact that it is a pub, and a steakhouse, but the whole restaurant was set up nearly entirely of tables for 2 that night!!  I don't think there were many non-couples in the restaurant that night.  It created a nice atmosphere and I couldn't really hear the people in the pub, which allowed me to enjoy a yummy meal with my Ricky in peace ^^

Quick pic while in the car since we were early

Me with my petite eye fillet (which actually...really isn't petite when you start eating it )
Ricky with his wagyu rump looking sleepy

After dinner we stopped by at Kangaroo Point for a little stroll.  There were also many couples enjoying the city view together just as we were ehehe

    Brisbane riverside night view

I forgot how tasty I was, and got owned by mozzies.  Ricky was protected from mozzies by me, so he escaped the evil mozzie attack.

My poor pinky >< But it's gone down a little bit today ^^

  • Happy Chinese New Year!!! (bit late but anyways) I hope everyone got heaps of red pocket money and yummy food gifts ahaha..

With the new year comes a new style.

    Welcome my straight fringe!

Welcome back black hair! (oh and the straight fringe got annoying within a week and not everyone liked the look XD but must admit it's much easier to volumize with the straight-style layering of the fringe ^^)

    Makeup!

Time for my second blog on makeup ^.^

    From top left: T'estimo purple 03 , Majolica Majorca BL763, Guerlain 400
From bottom left: Kate dual carat GD-1, Kate Trick Eyes BR-1, Kate Deep Trap Eyes PU-1, Yves Saint Laurent colour 3

    Mini Review

    T'estimo-
Super shimmery!! I love the shimmery base shadow, as well as the other two colours.  The main colour gives a slight tinge of purple, while the darker colour is dark enough to make the eyes smokey, but not so dark as to make me look bashed ahaha... These colours glide on smoothly and the applicator is great! The only thing I'm abit doubtful of is the black gel eyeliner part.  It smudges easily and does not last a whole day.  I usually put it on and wait a minute for it to dry before I finish off by putting abit of the darker purple shade over it.

Majolook- The blue colour is very sharp that's all I can say ahha (It's the one I'm using in my first straight fringe picture)!  The applicator has a nice velvety feel and picks up colour quite well.  The multi-functional cream base shadow part at the top is extremely subtle, which is probably why it would make a good base, or maybe a highlighter around the eyes.  I had to use quite abit before I was happy though, and I prefer not to use it.  The remaining three colours are better.  The shades are basically what you see is what you get ^^

Guerlain- How to put it.  I can't really see why it is so expensive, other than the fact that it is made in Italy.  It was hard to apply and did not go on smoothly.  The applicators aren't that great either but I can't really put a finger on what's wrong with it.  The white colour does not show up at all, and hence it fails at its action as a base colour, to highlight the brow area or brighten the inner corners of the eye.  The other 3 shades are abit better now that I have used it a couple of times.  I think you need to wear down the top layer before it becomes softer and applies better.  The colours are quite vibrant and show up a bluish silver, pink, and very deep purple.  This range has more matte shades, not so much shimmery shades like the Japanese brands.  The case is very well built and solid.

Kate- Overall I think Kate is not the best of Japanese makeup brands, but it is definitely good for its price and I still like to use it.  I have preferences for colours, and some apply easier than others.  I must admit that the colours don't go on the best (Eg, the green).  However, I love the BR-1 colour and Dual Carat GD-1 though.
BR-1 - This colour makes a great everyday eyeshadow, and the gold shimmery cream is easy to apply and looks so nice!  This compact lasts crazily long for some reason, unlike the green colour I have.  One day I was cleaning and was literally dripping with sweat from my forehead into my eyes, but this eyeshadow stayed on and still looked pretty good afterwards (keep in mind I always use eye primer).
GD-1 - The Dual Carat GD-1 is SOOOOOO nice!  I love the lighter colour and I use it with the BR-1 sometimes.  They go perfectly together.  One bad thing about it is that the shimmery stuff falls down, and can leave the rest of the face all shimmery too.

PU-1 - Lastly the Deep Eyes.  It makes for a great everyday colour as well.  The shimmery base colour is more shimmery than the Trick Eyes range, and the silver colour at the top for brightening the corners of the eye is super shimmery!  The deep eye effect would have been created better if the deeper pink colour was abit more darker than it was compared to the main light pink colour.  The dark purple liner shade is not too dark which makes it a more everyday colour to use.  I'd prefer if the compact was in a different design because the triangle shape makes it abit hard to get to the silver and dark purple shades.

YSL- Another disappointment.  There was a tutorial on how to use it in a Japanese magazine, and it looked better there than it does in real life.  The applicator doesn't pick up the eyeshadow well at all and it's very floppy.  The colour looks really nice, and it is shimmery while in the compact, but when you try to apply it to your eyes, the lighter colour does not really show up.  The darker colour is better, but I had to use alot to get a reasonable amount of colour.  It turns out an orangey red, and gives a more matte finish.  It doesn't help to create a 3D look, although I don't think that's its purpose.  I think this colour combination is supposed to give a fresh and natural look, but it just doesn't work on me and ends up making me look off-coloured.  I think it would suit someone with a double eyelid, or maybe a western person with a whiter complexion.

I recently ordered a Visee Jewel Crush eyeshadow compact E2.  Can't wait till it arrives! I hope it's good >,<  It looks really shimmery.  Maybe I'm just in a shimmery phase in life, but I find that shimmery eyeshadows help to brighten up the eyes and give a more dramatic look ^.^

I would still like to try, one day, when I actually have money, the Jill Stuart, Coffret Dor, and the Maquillage range.
I recently tried the Christmas limited edition Noble Glamorous eyeshadow compact by Maquillage and I absolutely loved it!! All the colours were so easy to apply, and they all showed up very well.  They blended together easily and all the colours just complimented each other.  I wonder if their 3D eye creater range is like that too XD

I have become fond of gel liners and I have already nearly used up my first tub.  I received my second tub by M.A.C for Christmas!!! I love this one!!!

This liner is super smooth and easy to glide onto the lids.  One bad thing about it is that it may be too smooth, or maybe the consistency is abit too thin? I find that there are streaks sometimes, so I reapply to fill in those streaks and then it's perfect.  It is waterproof, smudgeproof, sweatproof (I had this eyeliner on the day I was cleaning as well), and stays on for the whole day, through rain, hail or shine LOL.  No seriously, it's good. Really good.

I found out through my first gel liner tub what the cons of gel liner is.  It dries out towards the end and becomes clumpy.  I can still use my first tub though, which is good ehehe.. Hopefully my M.A.C one will not dry out like that.

With gel liners we cannot be without an eyeliner brush can we?  I was strolling through Terry White Chemists one day and I stumbled across E.L.F cosmetic tools, and they had eyeliner brushes there!! That was pretty surprising.

This flat eyeliner brush is surprisingly good and it is only $3.99 AUD if I remember correctly.  It was definitely less than $4, pretty good considering M.A.C was $38 AUD.  I was worried it would go out of shape easily like my other one did, but it didn't.  It retains its shape extremely well, but it is soft to touch at the same time.  The good thing about this brush is that it is very precise and makes a clean line from beginning to end.  The line can be made thick or thin easily, and it can get really close or even on the lash line.  Great buy!

Rough idea of what the the thick and thin line looks like with M.A.C. fluidline + E.L.F liner brush

Uni is starting in less than a week for me.  I haven't really finished revising either.  I should be freaking out at the moment but I am still not motivated enough to start studying again after I stopped a week or two ago. Hopefully I can pass this year, no scrap that, I just wish to get through the first 4 weeks of this intense standardized patients unit first.  ARRGHHH!!!!
